This ontology of anatomic stuctures of mosquitoes has been developed based on CARO (Common Anatomy Reference Ontology) and it is maintained in obo format.It has been submitted to OBO (Open Biomedical Ontologies). OBO lists a set of ontologies that can be directly browsed.
The Tick Anatomy ontology was based on the book "Biology of Ticks" by Dan Sonenshine, published by Oxford University Press, NY, NY (ISBN 0-19-505910-7) and several more recent publications.
Specific anatomical structures can be searched using our browser either by name or by terms belonging to the structure's definition. For example, you can look for "scutum" by searching either for the appropriate term or the contents of the definition.
